We began life on the old cm3.com messageboard when, amongst a few others, Erik and Bav complained enough to get us our very own forum. This was around May 1999 and since that day there has been a Crap Manager City, if not always in the same place.
Our early days were riddled with many arguments and battles with the Tactical Tips forum and numerous other strange individuals who appeared in the newly created forum to seemingly cause trouble. These infidels were quickly banished to whatever strange lands or planets they came from and things began to settle as Crappers from far and wide found the forum.
One of the most famous threads in those early days has simple become known as "The Thread" and is compulsary reading for all Crappers.
Things, however, changed during the days around Christmas 1999. With many of the regulars away from the forum, including Bav who was one of the moderators at the time, the messageboard was changed to a new version. With Bav being away and unable to register two new moderators were appointed to await his return. In between all his there had been quite a few complaints about the amount of off-topic threads that had been appearing in the forum. Also a few people had been showing their dislike for our forum and the people within. This led to the new moderators enforcing a strict no off-topic posting policy. There were few of us around at the time but the ones that were, weren’t particularly happy about this sudden enforcement of new rules. This led to Agrippa being banned a record number of times during that day, which he still holds and is very proud of.
We did have a 2nd forum on what was then cmscandinavia and this is where we did hang out for a few days. However this would not become our new home as the people involved with the site were reluctant for us to stay here(I think they were fed up BiB).
Then the Active Manager stepped in to help us out. This site was in the process of being built but they had a forum already and kindly added us it. With this change came the loss of any links with the official site apart from the few that ventured over there to post in the newly created Lower League Managers (LLM) forum.
It was January 2000 that saw us move into out new home at A-M and we happily stayed here while the we waited for the site to be built. At this stage we were only part of a messageboard that included the usual cm forums but we established ourselves here without any interference.
The site eventually came online around 4 or 5 months later but it was a short-lived set-up as with lack of time being the main reason the site ceased to exist and we were given our own board to do so as we wish. This led to CMC being out on it’s own for the first time and we quickly got the board looking more like we wanted.
The board remained our home for a further 8 months or so until, with quite a few complaints about the old server being one of the reasons, we moved to a new server with an updated messageboard. That leads us to our current position with only a little further to go to be up to date.
Then we moved again. Due to Barrysworld not being able to host our board Bav went out and bought some webspace and we got a brand new messageboard again. This board with its distinctive black colour scheme saw a surge in the popularity of CMC. Despite the relative lack of new product from SI (only tweaks and updates) the CM discussions continued every now and then in the General CM Talk room, but it was the "valid on-topic" chat in Crap Manager City that forged the community again. But hard times were not behind us...
One fateful day some plurk hacked Bav's account and did some poofy things that breached the terms of service. CMC disappeared off the air, and it took a quick regroup in D_D's PCMA forums for things to sort themselves out. After a period of cohabitation D_D and the crap elders sorted things out and CMC lived again in its own forum on D_D's webhosting (valin.org). There it remains to this day (thanks to the ongoing generosity of D_D!)
After much discussion it was decided to trim crapmanager.com down to just 4 forums and fully integrate those who had come across from LLM into the crap culture. Lower League Llama Land and the GMCT forums were merged with Crap Manager City to give us what we have today.
D_D, since renamed Elmo for reasons none of us really want to know or understand, moved CMC to a new more reliable server, and we ported to phpNuke at the same time, to integrate the forum and website.
Loveless and Dr_A made the original CMC websites in the past. Cosmic Trigger took up the task and contructed a fine "unofficial" CMC homepage where most of this history comes from.
